Dental implants have been the preferred teeth replacements option in our practice. We have selected one of the best system, the Straumann dental implant system (ITI) from Switzerland for our patients. It is selected because of its well-documented high success rate and reliability in reputable dental research literature.

1. What are dental implants and what can they do for me?

Dental implants are today's best substitutes to your natural teeth. They offer you a permanent solution for replacing one or more teeth. Many of our patients will tell you that dental implants have changed not only their smiles, the ir overall appearances but also their lives! There are numerous reasons to choose dental implants:

  • ■   Aesthetically, dental implants support artificial teeth that look like real teeth. Functionally, dental implants feel and act like real teeth.

  • ■   Smile with confidence. Discoloured or missing teeth ruin your appearance. Dental implant supported restorations help increase your self-esteem.

  • ■   Eat and chew again without pain or irritation. Foods that were forbidden are now back in the diet.

  • ■   Dental implants can improve your taste of food. Unlike dentures, with less plastic covering the roof of your mouth, you can enjoy natural flavours and sensations again.

  • ■   Express yourself clearly or simply be understood. Dental implants increase the retention and stability of your natural teeth.

  • ■   Dental implants eliminate the need for distasteful adhesives. Unlike dentures, there is no need to use "glue" when your artificial tooth is anchored to a dental implant.

  • ■   Lastly, dental implants can help maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues. They can reduce or eliminate bone loss, which causes "shrinkage" or facial cosmetic changes

2. Are dental implants successful?
Dental implants have been in existence for at least thirty years. In recent years, success rates at many clinics are consistently over 95% with proper personal and professional care. Few forms of dental treatments have such high success rates.

3. What is the procedure like?
There are two phases involved:

Phase 1:
A surgical incision is made in the gum tissues and dental implant is placed into the jawbone. The gum tissues are then closed and the healing phase begins. It takes about 6-8 weeks to ensure a strong base.

Phase 2:
Creating and fixing the new artificial tooth to the implant structure constitutes the second and final phase. Dental implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth or your dentures.

4. Are they expensive?
Dental implants are more expensive than traditional alternatives. However, they are a more permanent, lasting and natural solution than dentures. Thus, the greater initial investment. Surveys of implant patients show that they felt the investment was worth every cent and would do it again!

5. Does it hurts?
Many have said that having a tooth pulled out was more painful than a dental implant placement! To place a dental implant, our doctor will apply local anaesthesia for a comfortable experience. After the placement, you will be given medications for relief of any possible discomfort.

6. Will I be without teeth?
Our doctor will make sure that throughout the treatment period, you have temporary teeth to look and feel natural.

7. How do I take care of my dental implants?
Dental implants must be taken care of just like your natural teeth. Besides the daily brushing and flossing, your dental implant will be checked and cleaned during your 6-monthly routine dental check-up to ensure it is functioning optimally.
